Study Abroad
Spending a year living and studying in another country is a unique experience. Unlike the passing tourist, you have the chance to totally immerse yourself in another culture. You will gain unforgettable experiences and memories that you will draw upon in your business and personal life for years to come.
We operate two study abroad options:
- A one year international placement, usually in the USA or Australia
- A six month European placement through the SOCRATES scheme, for which you will need to undertake specific language training the year before
Students who take part in the programme have recognition of their participation added to their degree title, e.g. 'BSc Food Science (International)' or 'Food Science (European)' which employers can instantly appreciate as being of 'added value'.
Although study abroad is a popular option, many students obtain adequate work experience, for example during vacations, and prefer just to do a straight 3-year degree, which is still a very sought-after qualification. Equally, if you're not sure what you want to do right now, that's fine. You do not have to state your intentions to study abroad/work in industry on your UCAS form; you just need to let us know by the end of your first year with us.
