Entry Requirements

The standard academic entrance requirement for The School of Food Science and Nutrition for those taking A-Levels is:

BSc Food Science BBB including 2 sciences, preferably at least one being Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Maths.
BSc Food Studies and Nutrition ABB including 1 science, preferably at least one being Biology or Chemistry.
BSc Nutrition ABB including 2 Sciences, preferably at least one being Biology or Chemistry.

Other A level subjects: Food Technology Food and Nutrition, Psychology, and Geography will also be considered as Science Subjects, but must be taken in addition to Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Maths. Other A-level subjects will also be considered, however applicants are encouraged to contact the Admissions Team if they have any queries regarding specific subjects.

Points tariff:

BSc Food Science- 300 points

BSc Food Studies and Nutrition- 320 points

BSc Nutrition- 320 points

We will sometimes consider points at AS level, but we will not consider points in Key Skills or General Studies. Please visit the UCAS website (www.ucas.com) for further information on how to calculate tariff points.

We also require a minimum of grade C in English, Maths and Science(as single subjects or combined) at GCSE (or equivalent).

Alternative qualifications: The School of Food Science and Nutrition welcomes applications from applicants studying a range of equivalent Level 3 qualifications where students have the potential to succeed on their chosen degree course. Examples of such qualifications include: Access to HE Diploma, International Baccalaureate, European Baccalaureate, Scottish Higher Qualifications, Irish Leaving Certificate, Welsh Baccalaureate, BTEC and Professional Diploma. The UCAS website has a guide explaining how these qualifications translate into tariff points (www.ucas.com). Relevant science subject requirements apply. Applicants are encouraged to contact the Admissions Tutor if they have any queries regarding specific subjects.

English Language Qualifications

If your first language is not English, you will also need to provide us with evidence of an English language qualification, such as TOEFL (score 550), IELTS (score 6), International GCSE English (grade C).
