Food Science and Nutrition School Research Scholarships

The project scholarship is open to new UK, EU and International research students who have been accepted for admission onto a full-time, three year PhD projects in the School of Food Science and Nutrition.

This is a rolling deadline until the position is filled. Please contact the School for further information. 

Projects start September 2017.

The award covers the full value of the UK/EU course fee and a maintenance grant of £15,500 per annum. International applicants will be required to pay the difference between the UK/EU and International fee rate. Bench fees and writing-up costs, to a maximum of £5,000, are also included.

The award will be made for one year in the first instance and renewable for a further period of up to two years, subject to satisfactory academic progress and eligibility for full registration at the start of years two and three.

How to apply

The application process is in two parts:

1. Applicants must first submit an application for research degree study for one of the named projects and be in receipt of a student ID Number in order to be eligible for one of these scholarships. Applications without a valid ID Number will be rejected.

2. Applicants must complete the Scholarships Application Form and return it to no later than the indicated deadline date for each project.

Eligibility criteria 

  • These awards are not open to individuals who are already holding another award which covers the payment of tuition fees in full or part.
  • These awards are not open to students who are already registered for PhD research study or who have already been awarded a doctoral degree or equivalent.
  • Receipt of the scholarship is conditional upon you commencing your period of study by registering no later than the indicated project start date.
  • Scholarships cannot be deferred to a later year.
  • Applicants must live within a reasonable distance of the University of Leeds whilst in receipt of this Scholarship.
