Major Investment in the School

The School is seeking 2 new Chair appointments, a Professor of Obesity and a Professor of Lipid Biophysics. The posts are part of the continued expansion of the School, which is renowned for its research quality and the academic rigour of its courses. The chairs are part of a £23M investment by the University in academic leadership and we are seeking exceptional individuals who combine internationally-leading research and innovation with outstanding student education.

Nutritional Epidemiology appointments

28th September 2010

The School is pleased to announce that Dr Victoria Burley (Senior Lecturer in Nutritional Epidemiology) and Dr Charlotte Evans (Lecturer in Nutritional Epidemiology) have joined the School, enhancing our expertise in the critical area of food and health. Dr Burley has research interests in dietary factors and weight control and in dietary factors and cancer development. Dr Evans has recently attracted considerable media attention for her research on the nutritional value of school lunchboxes.

Lecturer in Food Processing

The School is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Mel Holmes as a Lecturer in Food Processing. Dr Holmes, a PhD graduate from the University's School of Mathematics, has considerable research expertise in the application of the principles of physical chemistry to understanding processing. The appointment of Dr Holmes, and the presence of Dr Peter Ho (also a Lecturer in Food Processing), means the School now has significant research and teaching expertise in this critical area.

New Appointment: Professor Janet Cade

8th July 2010

The School is delighted to announce that Professor Janet Cade (Professor of Nutritional Epidemiology and Public Health) and her team will be joining the School from the 1st of August 2010. Professor Cade has an international standing for her work on, for example, dietary fibre and breast cancer, and caffeine in pregnancy. Janet has recently been involved in projects trying to understand how nutritional status can be improved in schoolchildren. The School has been expanding in recent years and has enhanced its capacity for teaching and research in the nutrition area; Professor Cade and her team will have a substantial impact on our capability and our long-term aims of making an impact in the food-health area.
